Hello Pre-K parents,
This week in our classroom we started our week by celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day. We read a story to learn who he was, made a Johnny Appleseed craft, did an apple tree STEM project, and played a fun apple themed letter game to practice naming letters. On Tuesday and Wednesday we finished up our religion chapter on Jesus Blesses the Children. We heard the bible story again and talked about how Jesus loves us all just like he loved the children from the bible story. We also discussed how special we each are and made an “I Can” chart where the kids each shared something that they are really good at that makes them special. We wrote all of our ideas on a chart together to show that we are all special. We continued talking about families this week as well and focused on activities we do with our family and chores that we do to help at home. The kids made a family quilt square that showed an activity that they like to do with their family. We also each named a chore that we do to help out our family at home. The kids ended the week by hearing a story about family trees and we made a craft to show our own family tree! In our small groups this week we worked on our cutting skills and spelling our names, AB patterns, identifying colors, and naming people in a family. We also worked on sorting words that rhyme, counting words in sentences, and writing vertical and horizontal lines. In our journals this week we focused on curved lines and learned how to write them facing right, left, up, and down. The kids had fun painting on the easel this week and enjoyed playing with all of our apple themed centers some more as well. Next week we will be talking about family traditions and celebrations. We also will hear a life story for religion that teaches us that God loves each of us equally. We will have many fun fall themed center activities next week too. Wishing you all a great weekend! Miss Cordier and Ms. Douglas
