Hello Pre-K parents,
This week in our classroom we continued learning about plants. We heard a story about how plants grow and learned the sequence of how a sunflower grows. We reviewed that living things are anything that needs air, water, and food and that can grow and change. So far this year we have learned that humans and animals are both living things and we now added plants. We’ve been practicing using temporal words to sequence how different plants grow. The kids used the words first, next, then, and last to share how a sunflower grows. We also acted out the steps of a sunflower growing. Our religion lesson this week was about how we can love others. We focused mostly on concrete ways that we can show love to friends and family like sharing things and taking turns. We played a sharing game with partners this week where the kids took turns and named ways that they could share the toy they ended up with on the game board. We also made noise shakers and practiced taking turns playing our instruments. Next week we are going to talk about how Jesus belonged to a family. In our small groups we worked on removing initial sounds from words and writing canes and hooks. We’ve been working hard on noticing the initial sounds in words and manipulating those sounds either by adding a sound to a word or taking the sound away. I have been so impressed with how quickly the kids have been picking this us. They did such a great job with removing the initial sounds of words this week and name the part of the word that is left. This is not an easy skill to master and I am so proud of them! We also spent some time talking about feelings this week. We read a story called The Color Monster that helped us identify some different feelings we can have. We also heard a story about anger and learned some strategies of how we can manage angry feelings in an appropriate way. During calendar time this week we learned about number 15 and then spent the rest of the week reviewing teen numbers 11-15. We practiced writing them and counting them using twenty frames. In our journals we continued working on uppercase letters and learned how to correctly write N, M, K, Y, and Z. We ended our week with field day! The kids had so much fun playing all of the games with the 8th grade leaders! Have a great weekend! Miss Cordier and Ms. Douglas
